Gorilla trekking is an unforgettable, life-changing experience – a unique adventure in the heart of Africa’s most spectacular rainforests. Gorilla trekking safaris trek deep into the rainforest in search of the magnificent mountain gorillas.
The gorilla trek can take anything from 15 minutes to 8 hours, depending on where the gorillas are located. No matter how short or long the trek, spending time in the company of a gorilla family guarantees that the journey will be extraordinary.
Gorilla trekking in Uganda, Rwanda and DRC:
There are four locations in three different countries in central Africa, where one can embark on the gorilla trek adventures:
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Uganda
Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda
Virunga National Park, Democratic Republic of Congo.
Rwanda and Uganda not only offer safe and secure gorilla trekking, but also play host to a variety of other indigenous wildlife encounters and attractions (e.g. chimpanzee and golden monkey trekking, birding, unique fauna & flora, cultural and community projects).
Mountain Gorillas
Spending an hour in the company of mountain gorillas is one of earth’s most exclusive wildlife adventures. With only 650 mountain gorillas remaining, they face the unfortunate threat of extinction.
Mountain gorillas are identified at once by their long glossy coats which help to keep them warm and dry in the chilly mountain forests they inhabit. Gorillas live in stable family units which are led by a dominant silverback, whose main role is to protect the well-being of his family. A typical mountain gorilla family is comprised of a silverback, his females, black-backs, juveniles and infants.
