Uganda
Where else, over the space of ten days, can one hike to
within meters of endangered mountain gorillas and chimpanzees,
navigate the waterways in search of the elusive shoebill bird,
hippo’s and elephant, explore the savannah grasslands teaming
with thousands of topi, cob antelope and buffalo watched over
by Uganda’s legendary tree-climbing lions. And if the above
is not enough, Uganda is a birders paradise with 1008 recorded
species and it’s the source of the longest river in the
world, the River Nile.
The answer …. Uganda, and Uganda only
Some Uganda planning tips:
- Plan
as far in advance as possible.
- Peak trek months are Jan,
Feb, July to the end of September. Months like March, June
and October are also fine and less busy.
- Permits are in high demand
and can be booked up to one year in advance.
- Although pricy, trekking twice
over two gorilla groups is recommended.
- Rate is fixed at $500.00
per permit which entitles you to one hours of viewing.
- Permits
are non-transferable and non-refundable and no amount of
money or persuading purchase unavailable permits.
- Getting around (logistically)
Uganda can be expensive to do properly, especially if Kidepo,
Murchison’s Falls and Semliki are on the
agenda. Ensure that you are well prepared, as distances
are vast with roads being long and demanding.
- The ultimate
is a privately guided trip offering the best guides, access
and flexibility to spend extra
time when needed, but once again, plan well ahead in order
to secure the space.
- If you don’t have the
budget to enjoy a privately trip, then join a set departure
which are also available well in advance.

"Great trip, very well organized. Gorilla's were amazing, the hike through the rain-forest an old school adventure. Uganda is beautiful!"

I would like to thank you for the incredible holiday experience in Uganda, the organization was exceptional and how you managed to make things run so smoothly in a challenging environment we will never know.
All 6 of us had a fantastic time, with great experiences and some quite unforgettable moments. The wild animals can't be scripted but we seemed to all so often be in the right place at the right time, except of course for that elusive leopard. Next time!
The combination of experiences was just right and a great balance of wildlife and countryside. We really enjoyed it.
