BWINDI’S MOUNTAIN GORILLAS...[MORE] |
| YOUR
IDEAL GORILLA TREKKING KIT
Gorilla
trekking in the Bwindi
Impenetrable Forest can be a long
and strenuous activity & depending on
where one’s gorilla family is located,
can be a full days trek through a variety
of climates! Its worthwhile being well prepared
& I suggest you are kitted out as follows:
-
Light weight pants which are then tucked
into your socks & boots whilst
trekking.
-
A pair of gaiter’s or anklets
(especially when doing the longer treks)
-
A good, sturdy pair of waterproof hiking
boots
-
A comfortable pair of long hiking socks
(into which your pants are tucked)
-
A singlet or light weight t-shirt (a
long sleeve top is also advisable)
-
A waterproof & windproof jacket
(like a Gortex)
-
A poncho, peak cap and sunscreen.
-
Sunglasses with neck strap
-
Anti-histamine
cream / spray
-
A
small day pack that can carry your lunch
box, 3 -4 bottles of water,
camera equipment and additional clothing.
-
Camera, film, charged batteries, video
camera.
*
As one ascends the forest, one can reach
altitudes of 1900 at the tallest point.
Given the altitude & heat in the forest,
it’s advisable to layer yourself carefully
and NOT to take too much clothing with you,
as most will be taken
off & placed in your day pack.
* The climate in Bwindi
can be unpredictable! Even if you depart
in full sun- shine, be prepared for some
rain! (It is a rainforest after all)
* Always take a porter with you –
it’s the second best investment of
the day!
Recommended colors:
(Forest colors are best – NO white
or bright colors please)
