Kenya Government launches new eCitizen online visa service

As of July 1st 2015, the Government of Kenya will introduce a new electronic visa application system (eCitizen) for tourists and travellers wishing to enter Kenya.

eCitizen is an easy-to-use and efficient e-visa service where all nationals requiring a visa can log onto the online portal and apply for their Kenya entry visa before they travel.  This process will become compulsory from the 1st September 2015, however there will be a two-month changeover process until the end of August 2015. During the changeover process, travellers will still have the option of purchasing their visa upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi.   Thereafter, nationals will not be allowed to purchase visas when landing in Kenya.

How does one apply?

1)     Those wishing to enter Kenya after the 1st September 2015 should visit this web site:  https://www.ecitizen.go.ke/

2)    Select – “Register, as a Visitor

        –   As part of this process, you will receive a confirmation email that you need to click to verify and confirm your registration.

        –   At this point you will be asked to upload a digital passport photo  (maximum 500 px by 500 px)

3)    Once logged in, select “Department of Immigration Services”.

4)    Select – “Submit Application”

5)    Select – “Kenya Visa”

6)    Select the type of Visa (visitor you are) and read the instructions carefully

7)     Complete the application form – please note that incomplete applications will be rejected and you will lose your processing fee.

         –   You will need a scan of the bio page of your passport (with your name, D.O.B, and other information) 

         –   You will need to re-upload the passport photo

8)     Payment can be done using Visa, MasterCard and other debit cards

9)     Await your approval which will be sent to you via email.  This could take up to 7 working days so make sure you plan in advance.

10)  Once you have received the email advising that your visa has been approved, log back into  your eCitizen account and download your visa.

11)   Print a copy of the eCitizen visa and present to the immigration officers at your point of entry into Kenya.
