Hi All
Did you know that each year, thousands of visitors flock to the Western Cape to admire the colourful blooms that welcome Spring. Vivid arrays of blossoms are usually at their best from August through to the end of September. The region boasts about 4000 species, which can be found in botanical gardens, nature reserves and out in the wild. The popular flower route covers a vast area, from Darling in the south all the way to the Orange River in the north.
Hoping to have a blooming good time, I travelled 120 kilometres

north up the West Coast to the Postberg Private Nature Reserve. My visit was marred by clouds that hung like lichen to a tree and spring being late this year, blooming flowers were just not to be.
Apart from Postberg being a hotspot for carpets of spectacular flowers, the reserve is home to an assortment of antelope ranging from large herds of majestic Eland, colourful Bontebok, striking Springbok, Cape Mountain Zebra and Black Wildebeest. Sea birds are also in abundance. If you get the chance, pack a picnic and head down to Tsaarsbank Nook in this reserve, where the chances of spotting a few whales are excellent.
| FLOWER TIPS: |
| • |
Flowers are at their best between 11h00 - 16h00. |
| • |
Many flowers don't come out in overcast or rainy weather. |
| • |
Flowers face the sun, therefore viewing is best, if you travel with the sun behind you. |
| • |
Flowers bloom after rainfall, so early in the season they will be flowering near the coast and later in the season, they will be flowering inland. |
| • |
It is illegal to pick wild flowers. |
